The XTRAC excimer laser is an excellent treatment option for patients with a mild form of psoriasis. The laser treatment uses a "narrow band" of ultraviolet light which is the most effective manner to treat psoriatic plaques. Treatments take 5 to 10 minutes and are performed in the office. Many insurance plans offer this as a covered benefit.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THIS TREATMENT?
Psoriatic lesions are specifically targeted by the laser leaving healthy tissue surrounding the psoriasis intact. XTRAC works best for psoriasis localized to the hands, elbows, knees and scalp. There is minimal discomfort or pain associated with the laser treatments.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?
Patients typically see improvement and noticeable results in 8 to 10 treatments.
WHAT TYPE OF RESULTS WILL I SEE?
Usually 50% to 100% clearance of psoriatic lesions is accomplished following a series of XTRAC laser treatments. Maintenance treatments may be necessary and are recommended. No downtime is associated with this procedure and patients resume normal activities immediately following treatment.
